Gardening — December 18
Dear Orchid Doc:
I have a sun Vanda that has a very lazy root system (very few roots). A friend recently told me that I should stake my Vanda upside down and water and fertilise it as usual. She says that this is supposed to stimulate development of roots instead of leaves. Have you heard of this before? Is there any truth to this?
Orchid Lover
Dear Orchid Lover:
Never heard this one before. However, I have tied them to a fence in a partially lit area, watered them frequently, fertilised as usual, and that never fails me.
Dear Orchid Doc:
I have a Cattleya plant with a scorched leaf. Should I cut off the leaf or should I let it fall off by itself? If I want to remove the scorched leaf, where should I make the cut?
Janise
Dear Janise:
Let nature take its course. Allow the leaf to fall off naturally to ensure best results.
