Petersfield, Sandals South Coast in top-of-the-table clash
PETERSFIELD, Westmoreland — Petersfield FC and Sandals South Coast will clash in an early Zone Two top-of-the-table clash in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League at Petersfield playfield today at 3:00 pm.
Both teams won their opening games earlier this week and will be seeking to maintain their perfect records when the competition continues with four games today and another two set for tomorrow.
Defending champions Granville United, who were held by newcomers Hopewell FC on Sunday, will meet Reggae Youths at the UDC field; Faulkland FC and Wadadah FC, who were beaten in their opening games, will meet at Jarrett Park, while first-timers Three Miles River host Beaches Negril at Frome.
Sandals South Coast and Petersfield FC, both Westmoreland teams, were 1-0 winners in their opening games over promoted teams Faulkland FC and Holland United, respectively, and are tied at the top with Montego Bay Boys Club on three points each.
In their only meeting last season, Sandals beat Petersfield 3-2 on their way to the final where they lost to Granville United.
At the UDC field, Granville United will be seeking their first win when they take on Reggae Youths whom they had beaten 2-1 in a Cross-zone fixture last season in their first meeting at this level.
Granville United were surprised by a plucky Hopewell FC team when they were held to a 0-0 draw at Jarrett Park and will hope, to not only get their first goal, but their first win of the season.
Reggae Youths got off to a better start and it took a last-minute goal from Beaches Negril to deny them full points away from home and will come into this game full of confidence.
The best game of the day could come at Jarrett Park where Faulkland FC and former champions Wadadah FC will hope to rebound from opening losses earlier this week.
Faulkland FC lost their opening game for the first-time ever in their four years of existence and will be playing from behind for the first time.
They were edged 1-0 by Sandals South Coast and their coaching staff will be expected to make changes from a deep squad today.
Wadadah FC, who are under the guidance of former Reggae Boyz captain Donovan Ricketts, have made wholesale changes to their team, bringing in a number of youngsters who are expected to make an impact this season.
At Frome, Three Miles River, the Westmoreland FA Major League champions last season, will have a big task on their hands when they host Beaches Negril, who were semi-finalists last season.
The Carl ‘Long Life’ Palmer-coached Three Miles River came from a goal down to lead Clark’s Town in their opening game before conceding two late goals and losing their opening game.
