Bilingual takes Sweet Ruckus
Bilingual showed that she has capabilties of making a mark during the course of the 2017 Classic season especially among the fillies, after a rather easy win in the Graded Stakes Sweet Ruckus Trophy at Caymanas Park last Saturday, December 31, the last race day of 2016.
Owned by Elias Haloute and Stephan Narinesingh, trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Linton Steadman, Bilingual cruised home in the 1,400-metre event in 1:28.1 minutes, beating Night Light (Dane Nelson) and Awesome Sauce (Hakeem Pottinger) by three and three quarter lengths.
After the victory, Narinesingh said that he is now anxious to see how Bilingual will perform throughout the Classic season later this year.
“This was her hardest race to date, but she did what she had to do to win and I am happy for the victory. She will now get a little rest as she has now raced three times with two victories and we will look at things for the Classic races.
“She is a talented filly with more room for improvement and will run well in the Classic races. I rate her as a very good horse who will do us proud as she develops,” Narinesingh told the Complete Racing Guide.
Nunes, although happy with the win, still wanted more from Bilingual.
“My two-year-olds have done fairly well this season and when you achieve the goal you set out, which was to win the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, the feeling is always one of happiness.
“ Bilingual is a decent filly, however, I had to bring her back early because the Sweet Ruckus race would have fallen through due to a lack of entries.
“We really wanted a good run from Pontius Pilate but that didn’t materialise. Bilingual did win, but she ran so flat. Maybe it was because of the lack of ability in the race. As a trainer you are satisfied with a win, but I wanted more from what I saw,” Nunes said.
