Government increases expenditure by $13 billion
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Government has increased its expenditure for 2016/17 by almost $13 billion.
The Ministry of National Security received over $5 billion more to fight crime.
Minister of Finance and Planning, Audley Shaw, tabled the First Supplementary Estimates for 2016/17 in the House of Representatives this afternoon, adding $12.8 billion to the annual budget.
As expected, the bulk of the additional funds went to national security, education, transport and mining, health, and economic growth and job creation in the Office of the Prime Minister.
The increases topped up the budget from the $580 billion approved in May to $592.7 billion.
