Bus driver to be sentenced for slashing motorist’s tyre
A bus driver who slashed a tyre on a motorist’s car, claiming that he was operating an illegal public passenger vehicle, will know his fate today.
Thirty-six-year-old Rohan Lewis is charged with malicious destruction of property.
The court was told that on December 21, 2016 the complainant was travelling along Red Hills Road in Kingston when he stopped and picked up a friend.
The court was further told that when the complainant was about to drive off, Lewis, who was travelling in the opposite direction, used his bus to block the complainant’s vehicle. The complainant allegedly tried to reverse when Lewis alighted from his vehicle, took out a knife and punctured his tyres and threatened to kill him.
According to the police, Lewis turned up at the Red Hills Police Station shortly after the complainant reported the incident and said, “A run him a run robot and a tek weh the passenger them, and mi a run PP vehicle.”
When the matter was called up, Lewis apologised to the complainant and paid $10,000 in court.
Lewis’ attorney, Charles Williams, suggested that his client participate in an anger management class.
Parish Judge Andrea Pettigrew-Collins stood down the matter to get a same-day social inquiry report.
When the matter was recalled, the court was told that Lewis has been before the court on six different occasions for similar offences.
Prior to remanding Phillips, Pettigrew-Collins said, “You don’t learn from your experience. Perhaps [with] a little more time in custody you will. Sometimes they need a little more time to reflect.”
