Iceberg breaks the ice
FOR 10 years, Horatio Campbell worked behind the scenes as a writer for dancehall’s elite, including Bounty Killer and Macka Diamond. Recently he stepped from behind the curtains to score as deejay Iceberg.
He has teamed with deejay Shizzle Sherlock for the song Think A Chattingz which has been making waves. It is produced by Dre Swade Productions.
The laid-back artiste told Splash that he has been waiting a long time to break the ice.
“For 10 years, I have been trying to get the break. I have been putting in the work because I have been working hard for this,” he said.
Iceberg made his recording debut in 2010 with the song Swagger Like Mine for Rags To Riches Productions.
“ Rags to Riches is a youth who believed in my talent. We even shot a video for the song, but it didn’t get much airplay nor promotion,” Iceberg recalled.
Since then he has worked with several producers from the United Kingdom and Cayman Islands, but with little success.
A video for Think a Chattingz was recently filmed at popular dancehall hot spots such as Bounty Sundays and Nipples Tuesdays, as well as sections of Clarendon where Iceberg is from and resides.
A past student of Lennon High School in his home parish, Horatio Campbell studied welding at HEART Trust/NTA, but eyed music as a career. Welding, he said, was something he did “so I can have something to fall back on”.
While he recorded regularly, Iceberg wrote for other artistes. His songs for Bounty Killer includes Drop Bullet, Get It Back, Black Pon Black, and Grung God, while Macka Diamond’s comprises Don’t Move Don’t Talk andBad Gal Party.
Think A Chattingz has given him the break after years of tireless studio hopping.
“The journey so far has been a rocky road…good and bad sometimes. I do music for the love and I decided not to give up on it. It’s like an unbreakable relationship,” said Iceberg.
His follow-up singles are Still Nuh Feel Like You Gone and Cash Cash, another collaboration with Shizzle Sherlock.
