Shakespear for Rebel
St Ann-based singjay Shakespear is yearning for his musical breakthrough.
He notes that this is evident in one of his latest singles Put Me Outdeer. Released during the last quarter of last year, the entertainer said the song speaks about his determination and the setback he oftentimes encounter along his musical journey.
“It relates to the struggles I face once I choose a career in the arts. It serves as a universal cry to all the young acts who want and are trying to make it in the industry. We just want a fair chance to get our breakthrough. I really hope this single will reach the pinnacle of what music has to offer, possibly a Grammy also,” he said.
Put Me Outdeer was produced by Hibiscus Way Productions.
Shakespear, given name Andre Dyer, was born in Spanish Town, St Catherine but relocated to St Ann to live with his father at age six.
“My childhood wasn’t the best as my parents separated before I was born and it somewhat took a toll on me. However, I decided to rise above the circumstances and used music as an escape route. In 2005, I released my debut single called Guh A China, which was a controversial song about guns,” he said.
Among other singles that followed included We Nuh Trust Fren, Miss Those Days, Rapa Man and his most recent Christmas You and My Family.
The singer is scheduled to perform tonight at Rebel Salute slated to be held at Richmond Estate in St Ann.
