UPDATE: Patients to be transferred to UHWI after fire at Bustamante Hospital for Children
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health, Dr Winston De La Haye, says arrangements are being made to transfer four patients who were housed in the Intensive Care Unit of the Bustamante Hospital for Children following a fire at the institution last night.
The patients’ ages range from three days old to three years old, Dr De La Haye told OBSERVER ONLINE on Friday.
He said the University Hospital of the West Indies has indicated a willingness to assist with the four patients.
The fire is said to have caused panic at the institution due to the amount of smoke that was produced, however, only minor damage was done.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a malfunctioning air conditioning unit.
