Weekly Round-up: Gov’t announces crime plan… Alkaline detained overnight… J’can held with child porn

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Governor-General Patrick Allen on Thursday said the Government  will work on the reduction of crime with a five-pillar security strategy.

These include effective policing to restore trust in the JCF; social development interventions to reduce illiteracy, social fallout, and to equip people with tools to resolve conflicts; situational prevention of crime by planning new communities with security features and upgrading older ones; and working for a swift, sure and fair justice system which all citizens can trust and be proud.

Meanwhile, dancehall deejay Alkaline spent last night at a Kingston lock-up following an extensive interview with detectives yesterday.

Alkaline arrived at Area 4, Harman Barracks in Vineyard Town at 9:25 am on Thursday for questioning in relation to the death of Rohan Morris. He is yet to be released from police custody.

In other news, Anthony Carl Spence, said to be a Jamaican, was on Monday held with child pornography on his cellular phone as he disembarked a flight from Jamaica at the Orlando International Airport.

Spence allegedly told investigators that one of the two videos found on his phone was shown to a class of Jamaican school children “in order to determine whether any of them had ever been molested,” a criminal complaint filed Tuesday said.
