Trench Town show gets thumbs up

Trench Town show gets thumbs up

Junior Lincoln, chairman of the Trench Town Festival Committee, says last Saturday’s free concert at Boys’ Town, was an overwhelming success.

Lincoln estimates that over 15,000 fans were at the legendary venue to watch high-riding acts such as Capleton, Junior Reid, Richie Spice, Agent Sasco and the Marley brothers.

“I have never seen so many uptown (people) and Europeans down there. It was no ordinary show,” said Lincoln.

The Trench Town event was the third for Reggae Month featuring the Marleys (Stephen, Ky-Mani, Julian and Damian), whose father Bob Marley lived in the community for many years.

Lincoln also spent his youth in Trench Town which produced a number of outstanding artistes such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson and The Heptones.

His organisation heads restoration of the community which has suffered from decades of political and gang violence.

One of the Trench Town Festival Committee’s biggest projects is restoring the landmark Ambassador Theatre where many of Jamaica’s top artistes started their careers.
