PHOTOS: Dead crocodile seen afloat in St Thomas
ST THOMAS, Jamaica — Curious onlookers this morning converged on a swamp along the St Thomas main road, which leads into Hectors River Portland, where a dead crocodile was seen afloat.
When contacted a short while ago, the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) said they are unaware of the situation.
Crocodiles are listed as protected animals and under the Wildlife Protection Act, it is illegal to hunt or to have in one’s possession the whole or any part of a protected animal whether living or dead.
A maximum fine of $100,000 or six months imprisonment can be imposed on any person found guilty of breaching the Act, which is enforced by NEPA.
