Reggae Youths close in on mid-season final
THREE MILES RIVER, Westmoreland — Reggae Youths have put themselves in a good position from which to qualify for their first-ever mid-season final in the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charlie’s JB Rum Super League after beating promoted Three Miles River 4-0 on Tuesday to take over the lead in Zone One.
O’Carey Spence scored twice (45th and 56th minutes) to take his league-leading goal tally to eight and Santino Grinnion (37th) also got two for the St James team as they improved to 18 points, three more than second-placed Clark’s Town with one round of matches to be played this weekend.
Sandals South Coast secured their place in the February 25 mid-season final from Zone Two after clipping second-placed Montego Bay Boys Club 1-0 at the UDC field and improved to 25 points, nine clear, also with one set of matches to be played.
It was the second win for Reggae Youths over Three Miles River who are yet to concede a goal against the Westmoreland team.
Sandals South Coast, last season’s beaten finalists, made their place in the mid-season final certain with a 1-0 win over Montego Bay Boys Club, handing the St James team their first defeat of the season.
Dervin Campbell scored in the 63rd minute, his third goal in two games, to lead the Aaron Lawrence-coached Sandals South Coast to their eighth win.
Faulkland FC were also winners on Sunday, beating Petersfield FC 2-0 with two late goals as they won back-to-back games, on the heels of three straight losses.
Cion Peterkin in the 88th minute and Neil Clarke with his fifth goal of the season, a minute into time added, gave them a hard-fought win over a lively looking Petersfield FC team who are now winless in eight straight games.
The win boosted Faulkland FC into third place in Zone Two on 15 points, one behind Montego Bay Boys. Club.
