Beres rules the night
“IT is not Valentine’s night but Berestine’s night.” That’s how reggae singer Beres Hammond dubbed his performance at Woodstock in Negril on Tuesday.
Hardly anyone could dispute that as Hammond literally owned the night. He could do no wrong for the audience that packed the spacious venue.
Hammond’s performance at the Love at Woodstock event signalled the return of Appleton Estate Signature Nights series for 2017. The series, which was initially launched in 2016, combines Appleton brand sensitisation with top-notch performances by notable names in Jamaican music.
Hitting the stage at approximately 10:45 pm, Hammond proceeded to have his audience enthralled and spellbound, hanging on to his every note, and belting out lyrics word for word. Couples held each other close, some exchanging kisses all while Hammond provided the script for their love stories.
During the more than one-hour performance, backed seamlessly by his Harmony House Band, he delved into his extensive catalogue, setting off cheers around the venue as patrons sang along and called out for their favourites.
Dancehall deejay Beenie Man, who wasn’t billed for the event, entered the stage during Hammond’s performance, drawing huge cheers, for a impromptu stint while paying homage to the singer.
