Harmony, Baca Star soar to lead in Major League
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Harmony FC and Baca Star United took over the lead in their respective zones with contrasting wins on Sunday as the return round of the Trelawny Football Association/Monymusk Plantation Rum Major League got underway.
Shaquelle Reid scored twice (22nd and 77th minutes) for Harmony FC in the 4-0 win over Rio Bueno FC to move ahead of Coopers Pen, who were also winners on Sunday, while Bacca Star edged Spicy Hill to moved ahead of Duanvale on goal difference.
Fitzroy Shirley in the 80th and Ricardo Reid in the 81st added the other goals as Rio Bueno lost for the third time in six games, drawing the other three games.
Harmony FC and Coopers Pen are tied on 16 points in Zone One, while Baca Star and Duanvale are both on 14 points in Zone Two.
Sylvana Thompson’s 57th-minute goal gave Baca Star their second win over Spicy Hill SC this season, while Marvel Grant and Shannary Brown scored in the first half for Coopers Pen as they beat Bunkers Hill SC, who got a goal from Oshane Hunter in the 83rd minute.
On Saturday, Salt Marsh United outscored Invaders SC 4-3 at the Unity Sports Grounds.
It was a virtual explosion of goals for the former champions as they had scored just two goals in their previous five games in the first round which had moved them into third place in Zone One for at least 24 hours.
Granville FC came from a goal down to beat Daniel Town 3-1 as the losers played most of the game with nine players after two red cards in the first half.
Duanvale FC were held scoreless by strugglers Kinloss FC, who they had beaten 5-0 in the opening round.
At Unity, Marvin Reynolds and former National Under-17 player Ramone Brown both scored doubles for Salt Marsh United, whose two wins have come at the expense of Invaders SC.
