My concern is distance – Anthony Nunes
Following Runallday’s facile win in the Nutramix sponsored Front Runner Hot Line Stakes (six furlongs – 1,200m) on Saturday, trainer of the bay filly by Blue Pepsi Lodge – Racee filly, Anthony Nunes is expressing some concerns as to whether Runallday will effectively get a mile (1,600m), which is the trip of the Classic 1,000 Gunieas.
“I am hoping that she (Runallday) will be able get a mile, she is not necessarily bred to get a mile but what I like about Runallday is her running style.
“She is very relaxed, she is very calm and she doesn’t show that she is hard to rate or anything like that. “Maybe her disposition will allow her to get the mile of the 1,000 Guineas.
“She ran a decent time, although the track has been little on the fast side. Hope that she can move forward from here,” Nunes said after the filly’s victory.
Ridden by Linton Steadman, Runallday got home by a comfortable four lengths ahead of Lady Faye and Fort Knox in a new Stakes record of 1:12.3.
Interestingly, the time run by Runallday was the same done by Don Chassis in the colts and geldings section, the Front Runner Sir Howard Stakes.
Runallday didn’t show any speed like on last and had to settle and watch proceedings from fourth position behind Don’t Blush Babe (Anthony Thomas), Fort Knox, under Robert Halledeen and True Whisper, the mount of Jemar Jackson.
Turning for home as Fort Knox took over proceedings and looked very strong, Runallday, who got a clear run on the inside rails, came with a strong effort in deep stretch and powered past rivals in the last furlong to win emphatically.
When asked if his charge would test the Thornbird Stakes on March 18, Nunes responded: “It all depends on how she (Runallday) come out of this race and if everything is alright with her. In the week, I will answer that question.”
