ONLINE READERS COMMENT: Police DJ vs police preacher
Dear Editor,
It was with some degree of amusement that I watched an item of news on one of our television stations last night (27th February, 2017).
It featured some ministry work of a religious nature, where this guy was preaching and pushing people over the way you see top preachers do it on television.
What made this particular act different was that the person doing the pushing was no less a person than a police corporal, in full uniform.
My amusement stemmed not from what he was doing, per se, but in anticipation of the reaction to what he was doing.
This goodly gentleman was spreading the word of God, which I am certain not many people will be opposed to. After all, he was doing what is considered a good deed, as opined by a politician who was on the scene and who gave an impromptu interview.
I seem to recall though, that not too long ago another member of the police force was caught on video in a DJ lyrical clash, where he seemed to acquit himself quite well.
That action on the part of the cop was roundly castigated and condemned by many, including the hierarchy of the organization he represents. Never mind the fact that it was subsequently revealed that his participation was also for a worthy cause.
The main argument then, as I recall, was that doing what he did in uniform was a no-no.
It will be interesting to see the reaction from all and sundry coming on the heels of this recent incident compared to the police DJ clash.
Jamaicans say, “Same knife weh stick sheep stick goat”, but I suspect this might actually be a horse of a different colour.
