Papine, Mona, Munro lead in ISSA/JHF leagues

Papine, Mona, Munro lead in ISSA/JHF leagues

PAPINE High, Mona High (girls), Mona High (boys) and Munro College are the leaders in their respective zones in the 2017 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association Jamaica Hockey Federation High Schools competitions being played at the Mona Hockey field.

The competition has taken a break for the mid-term and will resume next Tuesday with five matches — champions Alpha Academy vs Immaculate Conception in girls’ action at 12 noon; St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) vs Tivoli Gardens (boys) at 1:00 pm; Kingston College vs Clan Carth at 2:15 pm; Munro College vs Denbigh High at 3:30 pm; Campion College vs Wolmer’s Boys’ at 4:45 pm.

Meanwhile, in the two girls’ zones, Papine lead the Zone ‘A’ points standing with nine points from three wins followed by Denbigh High with four points from three games, defending champions Alpha Academy with three points from two matches, Immaculate Conception High with two points from two starts, and St Hugh’s High with one point from three outings.

Zone ‘B’ has last year’s beaten finalists Mona High leading with six points from two starts, followed by Merl Grove High with five points from four games, St Andrew High on four points from three starts, Excelsior High also on four points from two outings, and Wolmer’s High School for Girls with one point from three matches.

In Zone ‘A’ of the boys’ section, Mona lead with 12 points from six matches, followed by defending champions Jamaica College with seven points from four games, Kingston College on four points from three outings, Papine High also on four points from three starts, Clan Carthy High with two points from four starts, and York Castle with one point from three matches.

Munro College lead Zone ‘B’ with 12 points from five starts, followed by Denbigh High with 10 points from four outings, Excelsior High with nine points from three games, Wolmer’s Boys’ with six points from four starts, Tivoli Gardens on four points from four games, last year’s beaten finalists Campion College with three points from five matches, and STATHS without a point from six starts.

Last Friday Munro College defeated Tivoli Gardens 4-1 with two goals from Zamor Cargill in the 11th and 40th minutes, and one each from Oneeko Allen and Stephen Panton in the 16th and 46th minutes, respectively. Akeem McPherson scored the lone goal for Tivoli Gardens High in the 25th minute.

Nickoy Stephenson’s 50th-minute goal gave Mona High a 1-0 win over Clan Carthy, while Kevin Reid scored for Excelsior High in the 15th minute to clip Campion College 1-0.
