It!

Your Under The Dryer team sat down with hairstylist Lakayda Brown, the woman with an uncanny ability to transform hair.

Under the Dryer (UTD): How long have you been in the business of hair?

Lakayda Brown (LB): A decade and counting.

UTD: Who inspired you to become a hairstylist?

LB: My mother inspired me. She used to do hair and as a child I would watch her at work, and I became fascinated by how hair could transform an individual. I noticed the difference in how they looked when they stepped in versus after my mum transformed them.

UTD: What styles do you specialise in?

LB: I specialise in wigs, especially the lace-front ones. I sew in hair, too.

UTD:What’s the hottest look right now, and how much hair is required?

LB: Soft curls and bob cuts are the latest styles. One pack of 29-piece hair is required for the soft curl wig and three packs of Solo Express for the bob cut.

UTD: And your go-to products?

LB: Design Essentials, Soft Sheen products and Olive Oil are some of the products I use.

UTD: How does one extend the life of a wig?

LB: Once the wig is removed, place it on a foam mannequin head.

UTD: We’re loving the soft curl. How long does it last?

LB: The wig lasts for a year, but the curls need to be refreshed every two weeks.
