Nat’l Chorale aims to thrill at Simply Myrna
THE National Chorale of Jamaica will be making its debut appearance on the seventh edition of Simply Myrna cabaret show scheduled to take place in the formal Gardens of Devon House in St Andrew, this evening.
According to Winston Ewart, conductor for the chorale, although the group is known for a repertoire comprising folk, religious, popular and light classical music with its usual flair and vivacity, it will be stepping outside the box for this event.
“We promise that this will be an unforgettable musical collaboration that people will be talking about for months… it will be something like the classics meets jazz,” said Ewart.
Founded in 1972, the chorale continues to promote, maintain and conduct a choral and orchestral group that portrays music at the highest level of excellence.
In addition to headliner songstress Myrna Hague, songwriter-guitarist Ernie Smith is also billed for the event. Adding to the musical presentation is some of Jamaica’s best musicians, with ace drummer Desi Jones as musical director and arranger. The musicians include: lecturer Marjorie Whylie on piano; guitarists Rupert Bent Sr, Michael Fletcher (bass) and Kenroy Mullings; Christopher McDonald on keyboards. In the horn section will be Vivian Scott on trumpet, Everoll Wray on trombone amd Ian Hird on saxophone and flute.
