Average run by Rambunctious Links

Although the win by Rambunctious Links was expected, the performance didn’t create much excitement for his trainer, Wayne DaCosta.

Ridden by Omar Walker, Rambunctious Links (Nuclear Wayne –Grand Cabaret) won by over three lengths in the maiden special weight Ozane Bell Trophy over 1,600 metres in 1:42.0.

The champion trainer concluded at the end of the race that it was just an average performance by his chestnut colt and revealed that there are some nagging issues which have affected his overall preparations.

“Well, we always thought he (Rambunctious Links) would stay but he has had some little niggling problems and because of those problems we weren’t able to give him a lot of work and so we just used competitive races as exercise runs for him.

“He had four races under his belt before, so we decided to stretch him out on this occasion.

“The time wasn’t that great today (Saturday) but I don’t know how the track is running as yet but it was fast in the morning. The performance of 1:42.0 was just on the average side. It was the first time going a mile and so let us see where he goes from here on. Hopefully, things will get better and I will be able to train him properly,” DaCosta intimated.

Rambunctious Links showed good speed and under a tight snug wrap, raced in second position behind Silver Rocket (Wesley Henry) for most of the way.

When Walker let loose, Rambunctious Links drew alongside Silver Rocket at the half-mile and that was that as the three-year-old chestnut colt cruised home by three-and-a-half lengths.

Subbie (Bebeto Harvey) came on well in deep stretch to finish second five lengths in front of Makhi (Javaniel Patterson) in third. The splits were 24.3, 48.1 and 1:13.2.
