Womanbition starts today at Redbones Cafe
The ninth Womanbition takes place today at Redbones Blues Cafe under the theme ‘Be Bold For Change’.
There will be performances from all-female band Adahzeh, Alaine, Aza Lineage, Monifa Goss, Charmaine Lemonious, Shuga, Sharon Tucker, Rayven Amani, Zosiah McGregor, Tuff Like Lion, Italee, Keteis Oyonde, Xylophone, and special guest Hezron.
Oyonde is also a member of the organising committee.
“With all that is happening with our women and children, this year’s renewal could not have come at a better time. With this year’s theme ‘Be Bold For Change’, Womanbition 2017 hopes to mobilise, inspire, and make a difference in raising the consciousness of why we ought to love each other rather than taking lives,” she said.
The event also honours Ka’Bu Ma’at Kheru (Andrea Williams Green), founder/host of the popular IRIE FM weekly programme, Running African, for contribution to cultural awareness and women’s issues.
Proceeds aid the Mustard Seed Community Mary’s Child home (for teenage mothers) and the UNIA Nursing Programme.
