Bad Gyal rocks Magnum contest
BAD Gyal Bambi gave a powerful performance at last Saturday’s staging of Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition held at at D’Entrance on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew.
The female lyricist’s set placed her among the top 10 finalists.“This is the straight elimination part of the competition, so standing up there waiting to hear your name being called in the top 10 was really intense. It feels amazing now, knowing I am part of the top 10 in a competition like the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall. I think I have been consistent, but like a sound clash, I am just juggling the rounds and waiting to drop the bomb when it reaches the tune for tune segment,” said Bad Gyal Bambi, whose given name is Mercedes Powell. The other female contestants to make the Magnum top 10 are: Tammy K, Rankin Pumpkin (who continues to surprise with her progress), Ali Ferrari and Suspense. Duo Keke and Frenchy was eliminated. For the male contestants, crowd favourite D’Element was eliminated, while Compass, Vanzo, Symatic, Tatik and Della Rhymes advanced. Vanzo and Symatic’s set were among the memorable of the evening – both had the crowd singing along just moments after hearing the lyrics.Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall Season 10 continues on Saturday, May 6.
