MoBay Boys Club upset Faulkland
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Montego Bay Boys Club scored an upset 2-1 win over Faulkland FC in Sunday’s return-leg semi-final of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League at Jarrett Park to earn a historic berth in the final against Sandals South Coast.
After a goalless first-leg meeting the previous weekend at Frome, Sunday’s game lived up to expectation. All three goals came in an 18-minute burst in the second half with Howard Dent, who joined the team in the January transfer window, scoring the winner.In the first game Sandals South Coast battered Wadadah FC 4-0 with two goals from Ron Daley, ending the nine-game unbeaten run of the St James club and repeating last year’s semi-final results.Sandals South Coast, last season’s losing finalists, will face Boys Club in the final set for Sunday at Jarrett Park. The winner will represent the Western Confederation in the play-offs for the two promotion places to the Red Stripe Premier League next season.Boys Club proved their semi-final qualification was no fluke as, after taking four points from their two regular-season games, they stunned Faulkland and their fans.Javes Morrison gave Boys Club the lead just before half- time, scoring in the 42nd minute before Peter-Lee Vassell pulled Faulkland level in the 57th minute.Dent, who was headed to Premier league team Montego Bay United before switching to the Super League outfit, scored the winner in the 60th minute.Wadadah FC looked the better team for long periods in the first leg of their semi-finals against Sandals South Coast, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw. On Sunday they had no answer, conceding four goals in a game for the second time this season.Tristan gave Sandals South Coast the lead after 14 minutes and Daley got the first of his double in the 26th minute.Daley put the game out of reach in the 77th minute before Dervin Campbell made it 4-0 in the 88th.—Paul Reid
