Trelawny gets a taste of Appleton Rum Tour
FALMOUTH, Trelawny
Cruise passengers arriving at the Falmouth port, as well as locals, now have a chance to experience a new and exciting attraction, the Appleton Estate Rum Seminar, situated at Bogue Gate, less than 10 minutes outside of the historic town. The experience features a one-hour education seminar and rum tasting.During the seminar, tour guides explain the rum-making process at the Appleton Estate in St Elizabeth through “high-impact” storyboards.“Having taken you through that we are going to seat you into the seminar pavilion where we are going to take you through a guided tasting of our rum,” explained Debbiann Spence- Minnott of JWray & Nephew. She noted that everything that is offered at the St Elizabeth tour is replicated, but downscaled, at the Trelawny location.“Everything is offered, but at the Appleton Rum Tour you get the real thing. So, instead of telling you about sugar cane, I show you sugar cane; instead of telling you about molasses or wet sugar, you see it, you taste it. So it’s more interactive. So it’s really a teaser for the real thing,” said Spence-Minnott.Meanwhile, Italy’s ambassador to Jamaica Armando Varrichio, who visited the attraction last Friday, was excited over the experience.“It has been a great experience. Of course I am a great fan of rum and I know Appleton; I have had many opportunities to enjoy this rum but today (Friday) is something more because I went really deep into the rum … the story and I touched barrels. I saw the sugar cane plants … I am grateful to have this opportunity,” the Italian envoy stated.
