Cavalier clinch KSAFA Super League final spot
Cavalier SC defeated Browns Town FC 7-6 on penalties in the feature game of Friday night’s double-header at Constant Spring field to reach the final of the Magnum/KSAFA Super League football competition.
Full time and extra time failed to separate the teams from a 1-1 stalemate after Tevin Scott had given Browns Town the lead in the 50th minute from a headed goal. Alex Marshall, one of Cavalier’s most lethal goalscorers, brought the teams level after working his way through the Browns Town defence in the 75th minute.Cavalier were awaiting the winner of last night’s semi-final between Barbican FC and Santos FC.Browns Town played engaging football in the first half of Friday’s semis and duly took the lead, but in the second it was all Cavalier. However, with both full and extra time failing to break the deadlock, referee Karl Tyrell introduced the dreaded penalty kicks.“This was a hard one, very hard. But it was just a game that we could not have afforded to lose, for all our preparation would have been in vain,” said an elated Cavalier Head Coach Rudolph Speid.“I must add that we spent some time in a penalty-kicking exercise which served us in good stead. I must mention the keeping of young Jaedine White who gave us the victory by saving the final kick from Browns Town,” Speid said.Karumie Huie, coach of Browns Town, said he was not overly disappointed.“It was a good game from two good teams. We finished the season unbeaten as the winners of Zone B. You do not call penalties. The luck goes your way or your opponents’ way. I feel joy [because] of how well we played throughout the season. What we have to do with this is to build on what we have achieved and then the type of results we are expecting will come,” Huie said.—Hurbun Williams
