Gore notches another first
R acecar driver Doug Gore added another first to his impressive list of achievements as he recently received the first 2018 Audi S5 in the region. The S5 is the current high-performance version of the Audi A5 Coupe.
“The S5 takes the A5 and times it by 10,” Gore told the
Jamaica Observer’s Auto magazine. For 2018, the Audi S5 makes 354bhp and 369lb/ft of torque from a turbocharged 3-litre V6. All that power is routed to Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission that offers manual shifting. The result is 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 12.9 seconds and a reported top speed of 155mph.Gore is no stranger to the fast four-ringed brand. However, his opinion of the S5 goes way beyond its speed.“What I really love about this car is its amenities and comfort,” he said.He also praised its handling.“I was sold on the reviews alone. Once I had it, one thing was clear: it’s one of the best handling cars I’ve ever owned.”Having owned a 2012 Audi A5 for six years, Gore feels he has total authority to say so. In searching for a new car, Gore said he sampled rivals, but it was ultimately the practicality of the A5 in general that retained his affection.“It’s a two-door coupe, yet I fit passengers, like my son Tommi, in the back, along with my racing gear,” he explained. When pressed on what stood out the most to him, Gore continued.“The stereo.”
