She’s A Maneater preps well for Derby
The brilliant filly She’s A Maneater returned from injury in imperious form when she easily brushed aside rivals by over four lengths in the top-rated $1.15-million Open Allowance event on the 12-race card at Caymanas Park yesterday.
The Wayne DaCosta-conditioned
She’s A Maneater, who missed the Jamaica Oaks in late April due to a muscle strain she sustained in exercise prior to the race, showed no sign of distress on her return when putting away
Another Bullet and
Hover Craft in a decent time of 1:38.2 for a mile (1,600m). It was the filly’s final run before the Jamaica Derby which is set to be run on Saturday, June 24.Ridden by Omar Walker,
She’s A Maneater sat in second position behind
Another Bullet (Odeen Edwards) for most of the way until approaching the half-mile (800m) when the 1000 Guineas winner challenged for the lead.Turning for home,
Another Bullet still had the upper hand and began to draw away a bit but the determined
She’s A Maneater, who hugged the inside rails, responded well when asked for an extra effort from Walker. She pulled alongside
Another Bullet at the furlong (200m) pole for a brief moment before powering home to score emphatically.
Another Bullet just held on for second money from the fast-finishing
Hover Craft, under Jevvanne Erwin, in the three-year-old and upwards event.Bred and owned by Winston Kong,
She’s A Maneater (
Natural Selection –
Ahwhofah) was winning for the fourth time this season from as many starts and seventh overall with one second-place finish from eight career outings.
