PM, PNP shocked, saddened by London Bridge terror attacks
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed shock at the recent incidents of terror in the United Kingdom and has extended the support and sympathies of the Government and people of Jamaica to the victims of the attacks on London Bridge and Borough Market in the UK.
The prime minister also pledged the Government’s support in the global fight against terrorist attacks. In a statement yesterday, the prime minister said: “No society should be so impacted by these wanton and heartless acts. Undoubtedly, all well-thinking countries of the world stand with the UK Government and its people in rejecting these attempts to undermine their way of life.”The Opposition People’s National Party said it is saddened by the news of yet another terror attack in London, adding that: “The report that seven persons have been confirmed dead is heartbreaking. Violence and attacks of this nature on humanity anywhere is unacceptable and must be condemned.”The PNP said it joined with the citizens of the United Kingdom and indeed with the rest of the world in denouncing these cowardly attacks.“The United Kingdom is home to a large number of Jamaicans, many of whom maintain strong family connections here in Jamaica, and attacks such as this would naturally provoke anxiety for many families.“We therefore call on the Government to immediately open all official channels of communications so that we are able to quickly ascertain information on any Jamaican who might be affected by this recent incident.”
