IGL supports breakfast feeding programme
FOR the last 18 years, IGL has been donating cash to the breakfast feeding programme at the Riverton Meadows Early Childhood Centre annually and volunteering time to feed and read to the students.
The outreach is done through the company’s charitable arm IGL Ignite Foundation. On May 30, IGL said its executives presented a $300,000 cheque to the centre to fund the breakfast feeding programme for another year; as well as one year’s supply of LPG.Twenty volunteers, including IGL staff members and IGL medical and nursing scholarship recipients from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, journeyed to the early childhood institution and were received with open arms by the enthusiastic students and the grateful staff members, the company said in a recent release.“We are extremely proud that IGL as a corporate company responded to our plea 18 years ago to assist with providing a balanced and nutritious meal for over 60-75 students on a daily basis,” said school principal Junior Rowe. “IGL has not wavered since the start of this partnership, and they continue to give valuable time and resources to make our breakfast feeding programme a success, even with the increase in our school population.”Annakaye Tucker, trade marketing manager at IGL, noted: “Partnering on this initiative means that we get to play an integral role in providing quality nutrition and fuelling the start of each school day so these little ones can be prepared to take on the world.”Tucker said that IGL continues to support the programme as the company’s owners, board members and staff believe in supporting the communities in which the company operates.“The St Patrick’s Foundation, through centres such as this one, have a long and successful track record in making a difference in communities such as Riverton City and we are privileged to be welcomed here every year,” shared Tucker. The principal, who has reportedly been with the St Patrick’s Foundation-owned institution for more than 40 years, said his students hail from Riverton Meadows, Waterhouse, Seaview Gardens, and Shanty Town and that all students benefit significantly from the breakfast feeding programme.“I want to use this opportunity on behalf of the St Patrick’s Foundation, board of directors, parents, community, and children to express our profound thanks and appreciation to management and staff of IGL for their continued and sustained assistance, we sincerely hope this partnership will continue for another 18 years and beyond,” Rowe said.
