Jamaica team in Cuba for Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Champs
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An eight member table tennis team left the island today for Havana, Cuba, to participate in the Senior Caribbean Championships.
A balanced team of four males and four females will represent Jamaica.
The males are led by Simon Tomlinson who plies his trade in Sweden. Cain Watson and the young, outstanding Kyle Richardson is also a part of the team. Onieka Francis from Excelsior High School and Brittany Murray from Titchfield High will lead a young female team.
Head of the delegation is President of the Jamaica Table Tennis Association Godfrey Lothian.
“We expect the male team to do very well this year and that the females will gain valuable experience from participating in this championship,” said Lothian.
“The preparation for the tournament has been good. We have Satoshi Takashima, who is here for two years from Japan and he has been working assiduously to bring them up to scratch so that they can compete at the championships.”
The team has missed the tournament for the last five years with the association focusing instead on the World Championships due to financial constraints.
