The length of a dress does not a lady make
Dear Editor,
I have been following Earl Moxam’s fascinating series Jamaica Reflections, aired on TVJ.
I found last Thursday’s episode particularly interesting. It dealt with students on the St Hugh’s girls school campus in the ’60s.
There were the girls, walking around in uniforms well above their knees, some almost at mid-thigh. By today’s standard they would be considered naked, what with the current length of girl’s uniform being close to the ankles.
Fae Ellington, a past student, told Maxom inter alia, “We had to learn how to sit. If something fell you did not bend, you go down,” as in stooped.
Yet, those girls never disgraced their uniforms by being involved in sexual episodes, on or off campus, which, sadly, is commonplace today.
Ah, the length of a dress does not a lady make.
