Holness to meet senior civil servants on crime Bill provisions
PRIME Minister Andrew Holness is to meet with all permanent secretaries and heads of government agencies in preparation for the implementation of the new Law Reform (Zones of Special Operations) (Special Community Development Measures) Act.
In a release last night, Jamaica House reported that the prime minister will be meeting with the senior civil servants to ensure that the necessary structures and support are in place for the social intervention and development measures which are key components of the Act.
This resulted from an all-day meeting of the National Security Council yesterday at Jamaica House, the first since the Act was gazetted on Wednesday.
The council, which is headed by Holness, received and deliberated on presentations from the Chief of Defence Staff Major General Rocky Meade and Commissioner of Police George Quallo on preparations for the implementation of the provisions.
The Act was gazetted after passage through both Houses of Parliament and being signed by the governor general.
