Grange congratulates Boyz, junior athletes and young cricketers

KINGSTON, Jamaica –  Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, says even before the finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup football tournament currently being played in the United States, congratulations are in order for Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz, who have now reached consecutive finals in the competition.

Grange’s comment followed the Reggae Boyz’ one-nil victory over Mexico in the Gold Cup semi-finals in Pasadena, California yesterday.

“It is history making for the Reggae Boys to reach the Gold Cup finals in consecutive tournaments and it is even sweeter to triumph over Mexico who were the ones to knock us out at this stage two years ago,” the sport minister said.

She expressed confidence that the Reggae Boyz would go on to beat the United States for their first hold on the Gold Cup.

Lauding what was another good weekend of sporting results for Jamaica and the West Indies, Grange said, “We must also commend the Jamaican team to the 19th Pan-America Under-20 track and field championships, which ended with Jamaica receiving seven medals, one gold, five silver and a bronze.”

She said the West Indies Under-19 team too deserve congratulations as having completed a win in their recent Youth ODI series against South Africa, they moved on to Zimbabwe where they are currently leading that country one-nil in another ODI series.
