Lunar Rocket blasts off to win by over 11 lengths
In a bold, front-running effort, the Joseph Thomas-trained Lunar Rocket turned the Restricted Allowance Eulitt Pitterson event into a possession, winning the six-furlong (1,200m) by a gaping 11 ½ lengths at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Owned by Golden Stables and ridden by Oneil Mullings, Lunar Rocket (Traditional-Awry) shot to the lead from the number two post, and with no one up to challenge her, the four-year-old chestnut filly just kept on going from her 12 rivals.
Mister Bones (Ameth Robles up) came on best of the rest in deep stretch to get second place ahead of Auntie Rhonda (Jemar Jackson), who out battled My Companion (Odeen Edwards) for third place.
“From the race was let go and we were on an uncontested lead coming into the lane, it was all over — as there was no catching us,” winning jockey Mullings said.
The clock was stopped at 1:12.1 minutes for the native-bred four-year-olds and upward non-winners of three events. Splits were 22.2 and 45.2 seconds.
Gary Subratie was the pick of the trainers with two winners on the 11-race programme. Subratie saddled KD Flyer (Bebeto Harvey) in the fourth race and Arthur’s Dream (Dane Dawkins) in the very next race.
Harvey rode Ganja Man to victory in the final race for trainer Colin Ferguson, to take the jockeys’ honours with two wins.
Racing continues next Saturday.
