Two more silver medals as curtain comes down on Pan-Am Champs
Jamaica added two more silver medals as the 19th Pan-American Under-20 track and field championships ended yesterday at the at Estadio Chan Chan in Trujillo, Peru, to finish with seven medals overall.
Kevin Nedrick won silver in the men’s shot put, his second individual medal of the weekend, while the men’s 4x400m team were also second.
Jamaica won one gold, five silver and a bronze in the three-day championships.
Nedrick ended his sterling junior career with two medals as after taking third in the discus throw on Friday. Yesterday he threw 20.34m, but was beaten again by American Jordan Geist who won with 22.02m, with another American Adrian Piperi third with 20.26m.
Geist, who beat Nedrick at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia in April, dominated as any of his four of his legal throws yesterday would have won the gold medal.
Jamaica’s Kyle Mitchell was fifth with 18.41m.
Christopher Taylor, the 200m champion, won his third medal as he was part of the men’s 4x400m team that took second place in 3:03.77 minutes with the team of Shemar Chambers, Anthony Carpenter, Jauavney James and Taylor.
The USA won in a championship record 3:00.33 with Peru third 2:17.14 seconds.
Nicolee Foster was fourth in the female 400m hurdles final in 58.16 seconds, while James was fifth in the male 400m hurdles final in 50.74 seconds.
Lushane Wilson was sixth in the men’s high jump with a best clearance of 2.13m, while Akeem Colley, who had also made the 800m final earlier, did not finish the 1500m final yesterday.
