In praise of Whitmore’s Reggae Boyz
Dear Editor,
It was very pleasing to watch the Theodore Whitmore-coached Reggae Boyz play and outmanoeuvre Mexico in the semi-final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup football match on Sunday night. It seems the Boyz have now turned the corner with such a tremendous display of confidence. They now seem ready to take Jamaica’s football to the next level.
They played Mexico and matched them in every department of the game so that the commentators stated that the Mexicans were running out of ideas. Considering that Mexico have participated in most World Cup tournaments, and is the undoubted kingpin of CONCACAF football, such a display by our Boyz have catapulted our hope for the future, and local football in particular.
Should our Boyz do the honours and take home the prize — and I am highly optimistic they will on Wednesday — this would quiet all Thomases about our talent and capabilities.
Goalkeeper Andre Blake have so far demonstrated his ability between the sticks quite efficiently and could go places soon and make a great name for himself and Jamaica. Also, the team has lifted its game excellently.
Congratulations to Theodore Whitmore for instilling confidence in the Boyz. I hope the confidence will continue and take us to the next World Cup in 2022.
Sorry “The Captain” is not physically around to enjoy this success, but the Lord knows best.
Congrats, Reggae Boyz on your 1-0 victory over Mexico, and best of luck in your final match for the championship.
