Cricket West Indies congratulates UWI on faculty of sport
ST JOHN’S, Antigua — Cricket West Indies (CWI) has congratulated the University of West Indies on being “innovative and cutting-edge in its academic development” with the official addition of a Faculty of Sport.
Today, CWI issued a statement saying the move suggests that the region is preparing the next generation of leaders, managers and workforce.
“The Faculty of Sport at the University of West Indies is a welcomed addition to the academic inventory of the Caribbean at this time,” CWI added.
Furthermore, the regional cricket body said the value this adds to the established sporting prowess of the region on the field, track, ring and court shows the extent of what the university believes is an industry worthy of investment.
“We are pleased with the addition and wish the university the best in its efforts to support one of the fastest growing industries in the world,” CWI expressed.
The new faculty was officially launched today. The UWI has named Dr Akshai Mansingh, current director of the Division of Sports Medicine, to serve in the capacity of dean of the newly created Faculty of Sport, effective August 1.
