Pedestrian’s legs broken when hit by car in Hanover
HANOVER, Jamaica — A pedestrian suffered serious injuries, including both legs being broken, when he was hit by a car on the Barbican main road in Sandy Bay, Hanover last night.
The police were summoned to the scene about 9:20 pm yesterday, shortly after the man was hit while crossing the road.
OBSERVER ONLINE understands that he walked into the path of an oncoming motorcar that was heading towards St James from Lucea, Hanover.
It is said that the right, front section of the motor vehicle (the driver’s side) hit him, causing the windshield to shatter. According to eyewitnesses, the impact flung him into the air and he fell on the back of the car, smashing the rear windshield.
The man, who was bleeding, tried to get up but could not and was assisted by passing motorist. His identity has not been ascertained.
Responding police officers assisted the injured man to hospital after taking a statement from the driver, whose hands were cut by pieces of glass from the broken windshield.
The driver was told to report to the police station today. His identity is being withheld,
