SEEKING MY DREAM: The leading money earner
Horse of the Year, Seeking My Dream enters tomorrow’s Reggae Trophy with the surety that he will improve on his stakes earnings and thereby increase his lead as the all-time leader in stakes won by any horse to ever race in Jamaica.
Seeking My Dream, especially after winning two consecutive Diamond Mile races in 2015 and 2016, was able to surpass former Triple Crown winner Mark My Word in the top spot. Seeking My Dream is unplaced only once in his 21 starts, winning 11 times.
This year’s Triple Crown heroine She’s A Maneater has jumped into position number nine on the list after pocketing just over $15 million while boasting a record of nine wins from 10 lifetime starts.
In the top 20 list of all-time earners there are nine horses who are still competing: Seeking My Dream (#1); Perfect Neighbour (#3); Typewriter (#5), – who will be making his first start in 2017 tomorrow; Bigdaddykool (#13); Franfield (#18); Hover Craft (#19) and Campesino (#20). Interestingly, both Hover Craft and Campesino are also set to race on the programme tomorrow.
The horse who holds the record for the most wins ever in local racing, Nasatol, with 36 wins, occupies position number 16 with just over $12 million.
Trainer Wayne DaCosta is responsible for, let’s say, six and a half of the top 20 earners – Seeking My Dream, Perfect Neighbour, She’s A Maneater, All Correct, Classy Prospect, and Hover Craft. DaCosta also trained Nasatol at different times, which is where the half comes in.
There are only two fillies in the top 20 — St Cecelia in position number four and She’s A Maneater.
