Romain eyes Standing Ovation Romain eyes Standing Ovation

Romain Virgo is among headliners for the Jamaica 55 Independence Festival Village opening show, Standing Ovation, at the National Arena in St Andrew, tonight.

Show time is 8:00 pm.

“Jamaica 55 Independence Festival Village in keeping with this year’s theme ‘Celebrating Jamaicans at Home and Abroad’, promises an exciting and thrilling experience for all Jamaicans and visitors to the island. This is a great way to start off the nightly shows with an epic line-up. It’s a show not to be missed,” said Stephen Davidson, director of marketing and public relations at Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC).

Also on the show’s bill are Karen Smith, One Third, Fab 5, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Jamaica, Company Dance Theatre, L’Acadco and comedian Michael Abrahams.

The daily Festival Village will feature activities for the entire family, including: live performances; promotional booths and displays; exhibitions; a food court; a kiddies village, rides and other attractions. The nightly show line-up features the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition Grand Final – Sunday, July 30; Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition Grand Coronation – Tuesday, August 1; Festival Fashion Flair – Wednesday, August 2; Mello-Go-Roun – Thursday, August 3; World Reggae Dance Championship – Friday, August 4 and Kingston Reggae Night – Saturday, August 5. Grand Gala will take place on Sunday, August 6.

Jamaicans at home and abroad are being encouraged to join in the Independence festivities by participating in this year’s Festival Fashion theme: “Wear Di Vibes… It’s Jamaica 55” by wearing black, red, emerald and gold, each representing the various vibes of the Jamaican people.
