Voting begins for new PNP standard bearer in SW St Andrew
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — Voting has commenced at the Caribbean Palm Community Centre in South Western St Andrew to determine who will become the People’s National Party (PNP) standard bearer in that constituency.
The seat, which was recently vacated by former party president Portia Simpson Miller, is being contested by Councillor of the Payne Land Division Audrey Smith Facey and Angella Brown Burke, Councillor for the Norman Gardens Division.
Simpson Miller has thrown her support behind Brown Burke, a move which many have likened to a stab in the back for Smith Facey.
Comrades dressed in shirts representing their candidate of choice made a rush for the voting stations when the poll opened at 10:00 am.
A total of 1,927 delegates are eligible to vote.
