Who doesn’t love a good body scrub?
IF you’re not using a body scrub then you’re missing out on a number of benefits that other skin care products do not provide.
So just what are the benefits of a body scrub?
1. Makes skin look fresh and rejuvenated
Essentially, the benefits of using a body scrub are the removal of dead skin cells and impurities from the body, leaving you feeling fresh and your skin looking rejuvenated and revitalised.
2. Makes skin look more youthful
Exfoliating dead skin cells tends to remove the dull and lacklustre appearance of the skin. Humans shed skin cells daily (anywhere from 11,000-23,000 skin cells an hour), and it usually takes about 27 to 30 days before new skin cells reach the top layer of the skin (stratum corneum).
Using a body scrub regularly will help make your skin look more vibrant and youthful.
3. Moisturising benefits
The benefits of body scrubs, through the removal of dead skin cells as a result of exfoliation with a mild type extend to moisturising, as it allows for the easy absorption of a skin moisturiser into the healthy skin. Ideally, the best body scrub is one that not only acts as a gentle exfoliant but moisturises at the same time.
Home-made Grapefruit Body Scrub
Ingredients
1 cup coconut oil
½ cup brown sugar
½ grapefruit (3-4 tbsp grapefruit juice)
3 Tbsp grapefruit zest
4-5 4 oz jelly jars
Directions
Using a grater, grate three tbsp of grapefruit zest (I found it easier to grate prior to juicing.)
Once you have your grapefruit zest, cut the grapefruit in half and juice it for 3-4 tbsp of grapefruit juice.
Next, in a medium-size bowl, combine the coconut oil, sugar, grapefruit juice, and zest and mix well.
Add the scrub to your 4 oz jars. Fills 4-5 4 oz Jelly jars.
The recipe can also be made smaller or larger depending on how much you would like. Stored in an airtight container, scrubs will last for about six months. If there is any separation, simply stir the mixture.
How to get the best results from a body scrub
To get the best benefits from a good body scrub, avoid applying too much pressure when using it. After all, the exfoliating medium in the body scrub should be sufficient to provide the abrasive action needed.
So, don’t be too aggressive about it and be sure to use a body scrub that is gentle but effective. The grapefruit body scrub satisfies these criteria and contains enough moisture and L-Ascorbic Acid to maintain lustre and youth.
