Miramar celebrates Jamaica’s independence
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Mayor of Miramar in Florida, Wayne Messam, will be presenting two days of celebration in honour of Jamaica’s independence beginning today.
Messam is a first-generation American who is son to Jamaican parents.
According to US media reports, the first event, Jamaica 55, will take place today at the Miramar Cultural Center.
The event is dedicated to celebrating Jamaicans at home and abroad and there will be an award ceremony as well as performances by Sons of Mystro and Randy Corinthian.
Sons of Mystro, a violin duo comprised of two brothers, are Fort Lauderdale based and they specialise in reggae fusion while Corinthian focuses on jazz and gospel.
On Saturday, August 5, Jamaica’s independence will be celebrated with free entertainment at Perry Park. The event will include live music, food and vendors.
