#London2017: Bolt, Blake ease through to 100m final
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The gauntlet has been thrown down to Usain Bolt! After a long US collegiate season, Christian Coleman showed there is still plenty left in the tank as he won the third semi final in 9.97s.
Usain Bolt closed fast, glancing across at Coleman as he stopped the clock at 9.98s — just outside his season’s best.
Bolt’s teammate Yohan Blake had previously won heat two, clocking 10.04 seconds ahead of Great Britain’s Reece Prescod in 10.05s.
Meanwhile, despite being the first athlete to achieve a sub-10 clocking in the championship when he won his heat yesterday, Jamaica’s third 100m semi-finalists Julian Forte finished fourth in heat one. His time of 10.13s was not good enough to qualify as one of the two fastest losers.
Akani Simbine, who only made it to the semi final as a fastest loser, won that heat. The South African was first into the 100m final in 10.05s ahead of Justin Gatlin in 10.09s.
Rivalries will be resumed in tonight’s final at 3:45 pm.
