#London2017: All 4 J’cans through to women’s 400m semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s team captain Novlene Williams-Mills stopped the clock at 51.00 seconds in heat four to book her spot among four Jamaicans in the semi finals of the women’s 400-metre event at the IAAF 2017 World Championships currently underway in London.
She is to be joined by Stephanie McPherson, who was second in heat two, clocking 51.27s behind Olympic Champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo who won in 50.97s.
McPherson was recently awarded a bronze medal for the women’s 400m athletics event from the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, following the disqualification of Russian athlete Antonina Krivoshapka.
Meanwhile, Shericka Jackson was second in heat three with 51.26s, while Chrisann Gordon won the sixth heat in 51.14s.
With three medal chances in the championships — including two in the relays — Allyson Felix opened her account by cruising to a 52.44-seconds clocking from the inside lane in the first heat of the event.
One more medal would put Felix alongside Jamaica’s Merlene Ottey (14) as the most bemedalled female athlete.
