Man denies stealing chairs from police station
A tyre repair man accused of stealing four chairs belonging to a deputy superintendent of police following a wake at a police station in Kingston is to go on trial on August 22.
The trial date was scheduled last Friday in court before Parish Judge Crooks, after 64-year-old Clive Mitchell pleaded not guilty to simple larceny.
According to allegations, on June 1 the officer brought 14 chairs to the Central Police Station in downtwon Kingston to be used at a wake for a colleague police officer. Following the wake, the officer counted off the 14 chairs and stacked them up beside the divisional office on the compound.
On the following day when he was ready to collect the chairs he noticed that four of them were missing, and following investigation, Mullings, who worked on the compound of the police station, was summoned. On his arrival, he was questioned about the chairs, which value $20,000, he reportedly told the DSP that: “Supe me tek dem go play domino and mi wi pay back fi dem.”
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
But when he appeared in court he denied stealing the chairs and his bail was extended for him to return to court, for trial in the night court.
