Mayor of Kingston says there should be unity in fighting crime
KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) – Mayor of Kingston, Senator Delroy Williams, says there should be unity in efforts to fight crime, even as he condemns the slaying of 17-year-old student, Mickolle Moulton, a resident of Arnett Gardens.
Councillor Williams said ideas and options can contend, but the “best solution” must be reached to “bring this monster under control”.
He was addressing the monthly meeting of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation at its Church Street offices in downtown Kingston today.
The mayor said the Corporation members hope for the “speedy recovery” of the younger sister of Mickolle, who was also attacked and injured at their home over the weekend.
Williams told the meeting that there is an increase in police presence in all major parts of the Corporate Area, and “we welcome that and ask the police to continue to operate in that regard”. The mayor said he is pleased with the number of police vehicles assigned to stations in the city, and the prospects of addition to the current fleet.
