NHT says it will not use credit reports to deny loans to contributors
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Housing Trust (NHT) has asserted that credit reports will not be used to deny contributors access to usual mortgage loans.
The NHT outlined in a release this evening that it will use reports to:
a) assist in verifying information submitted by individuals applying for mortgages in excess of NHT’s loan limit of $5.5 million. These loans are only provided in NHT schemes;
b) assist in designing programmes to manage and service mortgagors’ accounts such as loan rescheduling, granting moratoria or other initiatives to assist mortgagors in arrears or facing difficult times.
In addition, NHT said the use of credit reports will assist the organisation in identifying and verifying contributors in need of special provisions such as grants and subsidies.
NHT also reaffirmed its commitment to continue to explore options to better assist contributors in accessing and affording its loans.
