Cambridge take two-goal lead in return leg against Iberostar today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Cambridge United will take a two-goal lead into this afternoon’s return-leg semi-final of the St James Football Association Guardian Group Division Two competition against Ibero Star at the UDC field set to start at 3:00 pm.
Cambridge United won the first leg 3-1 and will start favourites to book a place in the final and secure promotion to the Division One competition next season.
The second semi-final return leg will be played tomorrow at the same venue with Club Ville FC leading Rose Mount 1-0.
In the first leg, Cambridge United were off to a good start and led 3-0 before Iberostar managed to pull a goal back and cut the deficit to two goals.
Anthony Brown gave Cambridge United the lead in the first half, and Obrien Bent made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute when he was sent through and beat the Iberostar FC goalkeeper Norlan Thompson with a ferocious shot from the edge of the 18-yard area.
Jermaine Francis, who had been brought on the field just minutes earlier, made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute when he converted from the penalty spot.
Garel Gooden pulled one back for Iberostar when he curled a free kick past Cambridge United’s goalkeeper Andre Pusey in the 75th minute.
In the case of a tie on the scores after regulation, extra time will be used to decide a winner. If there is still no winner, then penalty kicks will be used.
