$1 million worth of ganja seized at Kingston port
MORE than 200 pounds of marijuana was seized at the Port of Kingston on Thursday.
Jamaica Customs Agency, in a release yesterday said its Contraband Enforcement Team and officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force seized 222.8 pounds of marijuana that was concealed in an export container.
The customs agency said the marijuana has an estimated street value of $1,114,000.
“The team was alerted to a container with a discrepancy and further examination led to the discovery of three bags concealed in the container. When checked, the bags were found to contain 60 rectangular packages, with vegetable matter field tested to be marijuana,” the release said.
No arrest has been made in connection with the seizure, the agency said.
The matter is currently being investigated by the Border Protection Division of the Jamaica Customs Agency and the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Narcotics Division.
